Khalia tells us about how entrepreneurship not only runs in her family but also how she got her start as an entrepreneur at an early age, from selling things door-to-door and cold calling to selling cars for Plaza Motors just to name a few to start with. For Khalia, entrepreneurially thinking means to her, creating a vision that you can scan.
Khalia explains how she purchased a professional women’s basketball team at 23 years old. She talks about the fact that she is fortunate to have the love and support of family and friends as well as the community and the lessons she has learned in the 8 years as owner of the team.
Khalia talks about the trials and tribulations of building a brand from scratch. This includes raising attendance records from 50 fans in the beginning to a now record amount per game of 3000, to earning broadcasting rights and sponsorship dollars, along with being more entrenched in the community.
Khalia discusses the importance of women investing in women and the struggles women face in business lending and funding ventures.
